US Auction Cars to Georgia via Poti: The Auction-to-Port Leg
This page is for importers who buy vehicles at US auctions and bring them into Georgia through the port of Poti. Y7 Logistics, a Licensed & Bonded FMCSA Broker (MC #1741537, USDOT #4427359), moves the vehicle from the auction yard to the US export warehouse or port your freight forwarder nominates. The ocean leg to Poti and customs clearance in Georgia are handled by your forwarder and Georgia's Revenue Service; Y7 does neither.
From a US auction to Poti: the route, and the part Y7 runs
Six stages take a car from a US auction to the road in Georgia. Y7 runs the second and hands over at the third; the rest belongs to you, your freight forwarder and Georgian customs.
US auction
YouYou win the lot at Copart, IAA or Manheim, pay, and wait for the auction to release it. The release is what starts the US leg.
US inland leg
Y7Y7 assigns a carrier, which collects the car at the yard and delivers it to the export warehouse or port your forwarder nominated. You see each milestone in the Y7 portal.
US export warehouse or port
Y7 hands overDelivery follows the warehouse's receiving rules and the gate pass on file. From here the car is your forwarder's.
Ocean leg
Your forwarderYour forwarder books the vessel to Poti, and the ocean bill of lading is issued.
Poti
Your forwarderThe car arrives at Poti, the Georgian Black Sea port on this lane.
Customs clearance in Georgia
Your forwarder and the Revenue ServiceThe import is declared in Georgia and the Revenue Service assesses the duties. Then the car continues by road.
Poti and New York / New Jersey: where Georgia-bound cars leave from
Importers report that New York / New Jersey, through the Newark and Elizabeth terminals, is the main US departure hub for vehicles bound for Georgia. Which terminal and which vessel a car uses is your forwarder's decision.
New Jersey is also where most of Y7's work ends, across every destination: 491 of the 856 dispatches in Y7's registry (February–September 2026) were delivered to the export warehouses in Irvington (305) and Newark (186), New Jersey. The rates into those warehouses are measured below, and the Port Newark page describes the terminal.
Georgia is outside the EU: what that changes
Georgia is not a member of the European Union, so the EU Certificate of Origin, the one Y7 files for EU-bound cars, does not apply to this destination.
Georgian import duties are assessed by Georgia's Revenue Service, which publishes a customs calculator for vehicles at rs.ge/CarClearance-en. Y7 publishes no Georgian duty figure: the calculator and your forwarder are the sources.
The US leg into the New Jersey export warehouses
This is the part Y7 runs, and the part of the trip a buyer in Georgia usually cannot see.
Measured carrier rates into Newark and Irvington
Medians from Y7's own Central Dispatch records: 747 standard-vehicle auction pickups delivered to export warehouses and ports, February–September 2026. A local New Jersey run into Newark or Irvington and a pickup elsewhere in the Northeast are measured as lanes; longer hauls into New Jersey price by distance. These are carrier rates: the Y7 fee is separate and never added into them. The method is in the auction-to-port cost breakdown.
| Lane | Shipments | Median carrier rate | Typical range (25th–75th percentile) |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Jersey auctions to Newark / Irvington | 24* | $125 | $120–$130 |
| Auctions in NY, CT, MA, PA, RI and NH to the New Jersey warehouses | 80 | $330 | $300–$375 |
* A thin sample: read it as indicative, not settled.
Longer hauls into New Jersey, from the Midwest, the South or Texas, price by distance in the same records. Two long lanes into Newark have their own pages: Chicago to Port Newark and Texas to Port Newark.
| Haul distance | Shipments | Median carrier rate |
|---|---|---|
| Under 100 miles | 144 | $175 |
| 101–250 miles | 161 | $250 |
| 251–500 miles | 224 | $325 |
| 501–800 miles | 107 | $525 |
| 801–1,200 miles | 93 | $550 |
| Over 1,200 miles | 18 | $650 |
Three reasons a Copart yard turns a carrier away
Three failures account for most pickup delays at Copart yards, and each has the same cure: complete, accurate release data sent before the load is dispatched.
- The release is not cleared yet. The lot has not been cleared for release, so the yard turns the carrier away while storage keeps running. Dispatch only once payment has cleared and the release is issued.
- Buyer details that do not match. If the buyer name or buyer number on the paperwork differs from the lot, the yard refuses release. Send them exactly as they appear on the auction record.
- Keys nobody mentioned. Without the keys the car will not roll, and the carrier may not have the equipment to load it. State at booking whether there are keys and whether the car starts, rolls and steers.
Y7 checks the release data against the lot before dispatch, but the release is the yard's decision, and no one can guarantee it. The Copart gate pass guide has the full rules.
Seeing the car on the US leg
Practitioners call the inland leg the stretch the buyer cannot see: the ocean line is not involved until the car reaches the port. The Y7 portal shows it by the milestones it records: Listed (the Central Dispatch listing is created), Carrier Assigned, Dispatched and Delivered, and your Telegram or email thread reports the listing and the carrier assignment as they happen.
Pickup timing
Expect pickup typically 1–3 days after the release slot is obtained, not after the purchase, although a busy Copart yard can push the earliest appointment 2–4 days out and weather, season, weekends and carrier breakdowns can add more. Y7 does not promise a pickup date.
The Y7 fee and the carrier rate
Y7's dispatch fee for exporters is $50 per vehicle, and it includes handling the payment to the carrier. The carrier rate is a separate line and is never added to it. Y7 Logistics is a Licensed & Bonded FMCSA Broker (MC #1741537, USDOT #4427359), and cargo insurance in transit is the carrier's. Loads go to carriers from a network of 900+; before each dispatch Y7 checks the carrier's FMCSA authority, current certificate of insurance and Central Dispatch history, and the assigned driver's licence and direct number. Accounts run through the exporter program; the service is described on the auction-to-port transport page.
Where Y7's part ends
Y7's part ends at the US export warehouse or port. From there your freight forwarder arranges the ocean leg to Poti, and clearance in Georgia runs through the forwarder and the Revenue Service. Y7 does not quote ocean freight, transit times or Georgian duties, because it does not provide those services.
